Opening Times and Special Events


Mangapps Silver Jubilee Gala,
23rd, 24th & 25th August. (Bank Holiday Weekend)

25 years exactly since Mangapps Railway first opened to the public, we are holding a special celebratory gala.

All serviceable locomotives will be hauling a variety of rolling stock, there will be access to areas of the railway and museum that are not normally accessible to visitors and the Chelmsford Model Railway Club will be providing a model railway display. A new feature this year will be the opportunity for visitors to drive a Class 03 diesel loco!

The Railway will be open from 11.30 a.m. until 5.p.m. each day. Within those times, buses will meet all trains at Burnham- on- Crouch Station.

Ticket prices are £8.00 adult, £7.00 Senior Citizen, £3.50 child (age 3-16), under 3 free.
"Drive a Diesel", £10.00.

Train services will be ALL DIESEL on Saturday, STEAM & DIESEL on Sunday & Monday.

Mangapps Railway is open EVERY DAY through August.
Times and fares are the same as on weekends and trains will be running on each day.

The Railway and Museum
are open every Saturday and Sunday and on Bank Holidays
from 11. 30 am to 5. 00 pm.

Last admissions 4pm except by prior arrangement.

Closed throughout November and January
Trains operate on all open days.

Ticket Prices

Diesel Days £7. Senior citizen £6. Child £3. Under 3 years free.

Steam Days Adults £8. Senior citizen £7. Child £3.50. Under 3 years free.

Tickets include museum, lineside walk & train rides.

Trains run on each advertised open day. The first departure from Mangapps Station is at 12.15 (13.15 in December),
then every hour until 16.15 (more frequently on busy days.) Journey time to Old Heath is 10 minutes.

Passengers may also join trains at Old Heath, accessing the station via the adjacent public footpath.
Valid tickets, which may be obtained by telephone (01621 784898), are required by passengers boarding at Old Heath.

Steam trains will operate as follows-

All four days of the Easter weekend, April 18th, 19th, 20th and 21st.

Sunday May 4th, May Day Bank Holiday Monday 5th,

Sunday May 25th and Spring Bank Holiday Monday 26th


Mangapps Gala Weekend


23rd, 24th and 25th August (August Bank Holiday W/E)
Diesel on Saturday 23rd, steam and diesel on Sunday and Monday.
