Mangapps Gala, 2026.
The "Coffeepot" has landed! What's more, the weather forecasters are confident that we shall have substantial rain by the weekend,
so we shall actually be able to steam it.
The plan is that we shall run an intensive service with our fleet of seven ex BR diesels on Saturday,
while on Sunday & Monday the diesels will be joined by the "Coffeepot" and "Brookfield"- two steam locos,
a rare occurrence at Mangapps.
The "Coffeepot", Great Eastern Railway No 229, was built in 1876 and withdrawn by the GER during WW1,
operating in a South Wales shipyard until the early 1950s.
This remarkable survivor has been beautifully restored by its owner, Bill Parker, of the Flour Mill Works in Gloucestershire.
Although 229 spent several years as a static exhibit at the former North Woolwich Station Museum,
this visit to Mangapps will be the first time that a loco of this class has worked in Great Eastern territory since the last example was scrapped in 1949. Can you afford to miss it?
The Gala will be open from 11.30am to 5.00pm (last entry 4.00pm) each day of the Bank Holiday Weekend. Ticket prices for the Gala are £16 adults, £8 child, 3 y.o. & under free. Tickets include unlimited train rides on the day of purchase.

| Mangapps Railway Museum is a privately owned working railway and museum established on a farm at Burnham on Crouch, Essex. It features a ¾ mile standard gauge passenger carrying line, with restored stations, signal boxes and ancillary equipment removed from various sites throughout East Anglia and beyond. To operate the line the Railway has 18 steam and diesel locomotives and over 80 carriages and wagons, some of considerable historic and technical interest. |

| To complement the working Railway, the Museum has a collection of smaller railway relics which is one of the largest of its kind in Britain. This collection contains historic items connected with every aspect of railway operation and has a particular bias towards the railways of East Anglia and Railway signalling - in fact the signalling collection is believed to be the largest on public display in Britain. The Railway and Museum are owned and operated by the Jolly family assisted by a dedicated staff of volunteers. |
